Facelift

Are you often asked why you look “sad,” “mad,” or “tired”? Do you look older than you really feel?

As we get older time, heredity, sun exposure, fat and lifestyle habits can change our faces in way that many of us find unattractive.

Confidence and self esteem can be greatly affected by these changes in facial appearance. Facial changes manifest themselves in drooping skin and deep creases - which may make you look frustrated, unhappy and even unealthy.

A facelift procedure is an ideal way to reverse the signs of aging, revealing a more natural, youthful you. Medically known as Rhytidectomy, facelift is a surgical procedure designed to raise sagging tissues of the jowls, jawline and neck.

The muscles and skin is draped and tightened to regain a more refreshed appearance. Facelift can be performed in conjunction with other treatments, such as cheek lift, brow lift or neck lift to restore the natural facial contours of youth.

What can facelift do for your facial appearance?

After facelift surgery, you will look as young as you feel. Your face will appear refreshed and forever changed. Having a facelift can indeed “take years off” your face, increasing self-confidence and reducing anxiety over aging.

What happens during a facelift surgery?

A facelift procedure involves repositioning the multiple layers of the lower face to restore the facial shape and definition with a mild tightening of the skin. Facelift is performed under either general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation.

Once the anesthesia is administered, your assigned plastic surgeon from Esteworld will place incisions around your ears and possibly under your chin.

This provides him with maximum control throughout the entire surgery while also leaving inconspicuous scars. The doctor tightens underlying muscle and other tissues, removes excess fat deposits and redrapes the skin for a smooth, refined facial contour.

Facelift surgery typically lasts several hours or somewhat longer, if you decide to have more than one procedure done.

Incisions are usually placed above the hairline at the temples, extend in a natural line in front of the ear and continue behind the earlobe to the lower scalp.

Fat may be trimmed or suctioned from around the neck and chin to aesthetically enhance the contour.

Following facelift surgery, a small, thin tube maybe temporarily placed under the skin behind your ear to drain any blood that might accumulate there. The plastic surgeon may wrap your head loosely in bandages to minimize bruising and swelling.

Who qualifies for facelift surgery?

Ideal candidates for facelift procedure are individuals in good overall health but have started to experience signs of facial aging such as drooping of facial fat, muscles and skin. They may also have loose skin in the neck area.

Recovering from facelift surgery

Following your facelift surgery, stiches will be left in place for up to two weeks. Small drainage tubes may be used for a few days to avoid fluid build-up. Moreover, you will a special compression bandage to reduce swelling and to protect incisions. Most patients can return to work and regular routine within two weeks after facelift surgery.

Most patients can return to work approximately two weeks after undergoing facelift surgery. The worst of the swelling and bruising should have subsided by this time, but improvement continues for up to 12 months following surgery.
